Wellhead Water Treatment Plant Update

Dayton’s well head water filtration plant in the northeast of Dayton, is nearing completion. This project represents a significant investment in water quality improvements. The plant will filter Iron and Manganese from the water delivered from the Aquifer. Iron and Manganese are the cause of the discoloration and odor that can occur in the water supply system.

This plant will serve the northeast area of the City’s distribution system. Staff are currently pursuing funding for a similar system in the northwest of the Dayton distribution system.

The final phases of the project are being completed over the coming weeks, with pumps and valves being tested, and operation systems being finalized and tested. Staff training will be conducted before the plant is fully integrated into the distribution system. Well #5 needs some final adjustments before it is connected to the WHTP. The plant is anticipated to be operational in March 2026, and fully online with the distribution system in April 2026. If you have additional questions, please email mfarrell@daytonmn.gov.
