Community Development
The City of Dayton has completed the 2040 Comprehensive Plan. A Comprehensive Plan is a long-term guide for future growth and development of the city. State statute requires communities in the 7-county metro area to update their plan every 10-years. Major elements of the plan include land use, transportation and plans for parks and trails. You will find all the final chapters and maps prepared based on State Statue and Met Council guidelines in our resources section of the website. The Planning Commission held a Public Hearing on September 3, 2020.The City Council authorized the 2040 Plan’s submittal to the Metropolitan Council on September 22, 2020. The Metropolitan Council formally authorized adoption for the Comprehensive Plan on August 24, 2022.
